The National Archaeological Museum that was established in 1866. This is the treasure box of Greece. The building itself is a monument of the neoclassical era of the famous architects. The NAM has a vast collection of hundreds thousands of finds from all over Greece through the millennia. The collections can be visited chronologically from the neolithic period until the last dated artefacts of the roman times. You are about to see artefacts of the long history of Greece in a day, in one single place, being indoors. The first pots were made in the so-called neolithic “revolution”, in the cycladic era the beautiful marble figurines, the bronze age Greeks, the Minoans from Crete and the Mycenaeans have created their own civilization, depecting their world and ideas in frescoes. They had their own writing systems.
We will also follow from scratch how the Greeks achieved reproducing the human anatomy in marble in life-size or even bigger statues. You are about to see the highlights of the museum, the original Antikythera mechanism that was found in a shipwreck. This is the first computer of the world predicting solar and moon eclipses, the spot of the planets and the stars. Here we will also see the mask of Agamemnon, from the excavations of Schliemann and the original frescoes of Santorini!
